MND Australia congratulates the federal government

on supporting ALS/MND research in the latest NHMRC boost to medical research.

Minister for Mental Health and Ageing Mark Butler recently announced $447.5 million for medical research, though the National Health and Medical Research Council.

Over $2.5 million of this funding has been in allocated to grants focussing on MND research.

In addition Postdoctoral NHMRC fellowships include two for people working on MND projects.  $290,032 has been awarded to Dr Eneida Myoshi, UNSW and $397,054 to Mrs Kendle Maslowski from the Garvan Institute of Medical Research. This makes a total of $3,357,738 awarded by NHMRC for new projects and fellowships in MND research commencing in 2011.

With the $1,395,000 allocated by MND Australia for grants commencing in 2011 this brings the total of research funds made available over the last month in Australia to $4.4 million. A fantastic boost to MND research!
