As the national peak body, MND Australia works to attract national government, corporate and philanthropic funding to help us achieve our mission and to augment and support the work of our state association members.
A total income of $194,951 from donations is a slight increase compared to the $186,173 received in the previous 12 months. These funds are integral in assisting MND Australia to achieve our strategic objectives related to national advocacy, information, awareness and research and we thank all donors for their support. Importantly, income from donations has enabled us to maintain state MND association membership fees at the 2010/11 level thereby ensuring that more of our members’ funds can be directed to vital services to support people living with MND.
Income from membership fees, corporate support and unsolicited donations has supported a number of new initiatives over the last 12 months. Most significantly, MND Australia and the MND Research Institute of Australia (MNDRIA) launched a new integrated website in September 2013. Read more
In 2013 the Board was able to approve $2.2 million dollars to be available for allocation to new research grants commencing in 2014 and $2,167,323 million was awarded. This is the second year we have been able to allocate over $2 million and we are hopeful that research donations received up to 29 August 2014 will enable us to once again maintain, or increase, this incredible level of funding for new grants for Australia’s very best researchers in 2015. MND Australia is in a positive financial position at year end with a small loss of $15,784. While MND Australia’s income, apart from membership fees, is dependent on year-to-year donations, expenditure is closely monitored and managed. This year’s expenditure increased moderately over the previous 12 months due, in large part, to an increase in donations specified for research which were passed on in full to the MND Research Institute of Australia.
Once again we sincerely thank all donors for their generosity. Your donations are vital in supporting our work to help people impacted by MND live better for longer and helping us to grow MND research in Australia as we work towards our vision of a world free from MND.
