Through her role as Chairwoman of the International Alliance for ALS/MND, our CEO, Carol Birks, was privileged to experience different cultures’ approaches to MND care and support. With visits to Myanmar and Israel, the trips were a great opportunity to see the exciting progress in MND research and care internationally. Differences were underpinned by a common passion and commitment to improve the lives of people living with this devastating disease and their families.

National Carers Week 2017 will run from 15 – 21 October and is an opportunity to appreciate and celebrate the invaluable contribution that Australia’s 2.7 million unpaid carers make every day. In Australia, the economic impact of informal care costs of people living MND totals $68.5 million - or $32,728 per person with MND. This financial strain highlights the serious reliance the system currently places on family carers to support people living with motor neurone disease. Carers make an enormous contribution to our communities and our nation and it is important that they are recognised.

Australia has six State MND Associations committed to providing the best care and support services for people impacted by MND. The Associations support the lives of Australians living with MND, and aim to help everyone live better for longer. MND researchers as well as the broader MND community are invited to attend the 13th MND Australia Research Conference: Investing in Innovation, Partnering for Progress to be opened by Federal Assistant Minister for Health, the Hon Dr David Gillespie MP. The Conference will be held on Friday 10 November at the University of Sydney.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), a leading global IT organisation, today announced it will provide free IT and technology expertise to MND Australia and another 11 not-for-profit organisations in Australia.
TCS will assist MND Australia to develop technology solutions that enable easy access to information, for people living with MND who may find access to traditional information and networks difficult. Read media release
